Impersonators

Impersonator protection watches for members who try to pass themselves off as your staff. When someone joins, changes their nickname, username or avatar to look like a member who holds a protected role, exceed folds out the usual tricks — Cyrillic and Greek look-alike letters, full-width text, spacing, accents and digit swaps like 4dm1n for admin — and posts an alert showing the real member and the impostor side by side. It is off by default.

How it works

You choose which roles are worth protecting (Owner, Admin, Staff, Support). Anyone who already holds one of those roles is never flagged. Everyone else is checked on join, on nickname change and on username/avatar change against every protected member using a confusable-aware "skeleton" of their name, plus an exact-avatar check.

When there is a match, exceed either sends it to staff for review or acts automatically, depending on your chosen action.

The fastest way to start is ,impersonators @YourStaffRole #your-alert-channel, which protects the role, sets the channel and turns the feature on in one go.

Actions

• Review (default) — posts an alert with Not an impersonator, Quarantine, Kick and Ban buttons so staff decide.
• Quarantine — automatically applies your quarantine role, then posts the alert.
• Kick / Ban — removes the member automatically, then posts the alert.

Every alert has the same buttons, so even on auto-actions your staff can escalate or undo with one click. Not an impersonator adds the member to the ignore list so they are never flagged again.

Tips

• Set the alert channel to a staff-only channel — the alert @-mentions the suspected impersonator.
• Avatar matching only catches members re-using the exact same image; the name check is what stops most impersonation.
• Detection thresholds, protected roles, the alert channel and the ignore list can all be managed from the dashboard's Impersonators page.
